Standing tall. Shining in the sanctified niche of time This installation of light “Glowrious” conveys the message of glory, the joy of victory, a remembrance of eternity and an outburst of merriment with its sight and reflection.

Light here is not meant to illuminate the surroundings but to turn towards self and illuminate calmness, repose,  beauty gratitude. The whole framework of this installation through which the abstract ideas find expression to create reflective and refractive patterns of their own. “Glowrious” in this present look and feel took about a whole year of conceptualization and prototyping.

Starting from the idea of cardboard boxes, to more flexible, tough, weatherproof yet translucent material let him choose and resource his method and materials. First displayed at  Garden of Five Senses, Delhi it has travelled to to Jaipur Lit Fest as part of their musical evenings and then in Delhi in  a much larger format.

Each of his 100 light sculptures were first hand drawn, painted with his characteristic strokes in acrylic colours, then hand cut. After cutting and folding the sheet, (this is Poly Propylene corrugated  sheet with light insulating capacity, moisture resistant, aging resistance and high tensile strength and light weight) in a cubistic shapes of different heights keeping the breadth and depth similar he stiffened them with glue, before fastening the structure to a steel pedestal with nuts and bolts.

He is much interested to the temporality of this light installation which has a transformative impact with altered venues and time. “I think my installations will turn into public performances and events, while ‘Glowrious” spreads further its glory and light, quips Gopal with his eyes lit with optimism of grander installations”.
