Spring is in the air

Gopal has drawn a specific corollary about the reconnect to mother nature, love, bonding and revival of enjoyment in simplest of things and beauty. Showing how the textures and patterns from each layer can work together seamlessly to create something beautiful, so simply so naturally. The art installation involving giant tree branch blossoming into flowers, new fresh leaves and buds. “My earlier work has often been playful, colorful and has incorporated much of abstract imagery and semiotics. But when I thought of public art installation I envisioned more simpler, realistic sort of metaphorical blending of objects and function to connect with common urban/metro man and appreciate art , a  tree branch, from  layered paper flowers in a mall as an arrival of spring season  made a perfect sense. .

I really liked the idea of morphing the simpler, recycled materials into an embodiment of a beauty at this exaggerated scale.” The branch is seated on the high tension cables fastened and suspended over central atrium of the plaza, and spans across and above reaching the ceiling height above the 3 floors.

Aside from symbolizing spring celebrations, the installation “spring is in the air” is meant to act as a meeting place for members of the different community and to inspire conversation between strangers visiting the mall.

Starting from the idea of cardboard boxes, to more flexible, tough, weatherproof yet translucent material let him choose and resource his method and materials. First displayed at  Garden of Five Senses, Delhi it has travelled to to Jaipur Lit Fest as part of their musical evenings and then in Delhi in  a much larger format.
